Non Wildlife Explorer members are welcome at all our events. Although the majority of our activities are aimed at 8 to 12 years olds, under 8′s are welcome but must be accompanied throughout by an adult. All our Leaders have been CRB checked and approved by the RSPB, there are First Aiders present at every meeting and all activities are fully risk assessed. Please note some of our meetings involve outdoor activities so please wear suitable clothing and footwear.

Wildlife Explorers Nesting Birds and Eggs. Indoor /Outdoor meeting

Today marks the start of British Summertime, we are all ready to enjoy the sunshine after a long winter. Our meeting will have the theme of nesting birds and eggs. There will be fun, educational activities and games relating to this. Does anybody like chocolate eggs? The winner to give the group a name will be announced and a prize awarded.

RSPB Wildlife Explorers Indoor/Outdoor meeting – Pond Lifecycles

This months meeting has a theme of pond lifecycles. Learn about this amazing wildlife habitat and its many wonderful creatures. The air should be full of the sound of birdsong, how many can you identify? Use binoculars to spot as many birds as you can. There will be games to play and other fun, educational activities. Come along and don’t forget to tell your friends.

RSPB Wildlife Explorers Outdoor meeting: Migration

Location: Pleasley Pit Country Park, Pit Lane, Pleasley. Off Chesterfield Road North (A617) Meet on site in the car park.

The theme for this meeting will be migration. It’s not only birds that migrate! How many other creatures can you think of that migrate? Butterflies are one. Migration will be in full swing with birds visiting these shores from Africa and many other countries by the time we have this meeting. We will be visiting Pleasley Pit Country Park where we hope to see birds like Swifts, swallows and skylarks to name just a few. The group leader from the Pleasley Pit Nature Study Group will be telling the children about the wildlife to be seen at this site.

RSPB Wildlife Explorers Outdoor Meeting: Camouflage (please note later start time )

Location: Strawberry Hill Heath SSSI (near Rainworth)

This outdoor meeting will see the group exploring Strawberry Hill Heath ( near Rainworth ) This heathland and woods is a site of special scientific interest (SSSI). We will be looking out for camouflaged wildlife, like the cryptically camouflaged woodcock and nightjar, it’s an excellent place to see these birds along with a host of other wildlife. This trip will be an afternoon start with an early evening finish. Meet in Tesco’s car park Jubileeway South, Oak Tree Lane, Mansfield.

RSPB Wildlife Explorers Outdoor meeting: Marine

Location: Kings Mill Reservoir, Sutton In Ashfield, Nottinghamshire. Reservoir car park just off the A38/A617 junction. Meet on site by the Strawberry Fayre Cafe.

This meeting will be held at Kingsmill Reservoir, the theme will be Marine wildlife. Fun activities will relate to the Wildlife Explorers current campaign called: Are you on the Seas side? Have you been on holiday to the sea side recently? We would love to know what wildlife you saw, maybe you have been rock pooling, or have you been on a boat trip at sea where you saw some marine wildlife?
